La mala visibilidad obligó este miércoles al avión presidencial estadounidense, Air Force One, en el que iba Barack Obama, a anular una maniobra de aterrizaje en Connecticut, lo que consiguió en la segunda ocasión.
Según la Autoridad Federal de Aviación (FAA), la visibilidad en el aeropuerto Bradley Field se encontraba "bajo mínimos" debido a una gran nubosidad y los pilotos no podían ver la pista de aterrizaje desde la altura requerida.
Por ello, los pilotos, que ya habían comenzado el descenso sobre el aeropuerto, optaron por recuperar altura y sobrevolar el área en círculos durante unos minutos.
Según declaró el portavoz de la Casa Blanca Nick Shapiro, el avión "sobrevoló en círculos debido al tiempo. Volaron en círculo y aterrizaron sin problemas unos minutos más tarde, a las 10.05 de la mañana hora local (14.05 GMT)".
"El piloto estaba en el proceso de aterrizaje pero debido al tiempo decidió dar vueltas en torno al aeropuerto y después aterrizar. Es un procedimiento estándar y seguro", agregó Shapiro.
Obama viajó a Connecticut para pronunciar un discurso de graduación en la Academia de Guardiamarines de EEUU, tras lo cual se trasladará a Boston para participar en un acto de recaudación de fondos.
